In opposition to a literal definition of Foundations, I want to explore the theme on a personal level. Focusing on what I fundamentally value within my life, my work intends to expose the tension between masculine and feminine attributes of sexuality and to strike a balance between the two from an intimate perspective. Themes of identity have become prevalent within my current individual practice, whether that be explicit characteristics of a person’s identity or more implicit and unseen qualities. Throughout this body of work, I want to create imagery that conveys a desire to balance, subvert, and challenge assumptions and stereotypes prevailing within a heteronormative society. Why is there still a stigma around homosexuality and how does this link to patriarchal standards of society - why is femininity a crime? This body of work eventually ended with the name “THIRST” meaning a thirst for balance, a thirst for change within society and how sexuality and identity is merely tolerated, not celebrated.
